The Hunger for Education
Applications have begun to stream in.
So far five Nursery schools and six Primary schools run by the Anglican Diocese of Southern Malawi have submitted lists of resources they would like. Are these icing-on-the cake items ? No. Just the basic bread of educational life: pencils, pens, exercise books, plain and lined paper, boxes of chalk. The need is huge but their lists are small, keeping within the limits we can currently afford. And why does the Mlambe Early Childhood Centre want some bags of cement? Because there are crumbling potholes in the classroom floor and if you are sitting on the floor all morning they do nothing for your comfort, concentration or the cleanliness of your precious clothes. Local volunteers will bring stones, sand, water and provide the labour – willing partners. Do Join the Team and, if you can, donate. A box of 50 pens £8? 5 boxes of crayons £10? 125 exercise books £20? Or broaden the smiles with a football and a netball £15?
