CHIFUNDO MZUNGU D.C.M.

Last month saw the graduation of our first medical student with a Diploma in Clinical Medicine from Ekwendeni College of Health Sciences. Chifundo overcame many difficulties in childhood and because of his potential was awarded a Social Welfare bursary to fund his Secondary schooling. Although he had brilliant School Certificate results, it took two years to achieve the offer of a college place but the problem of funding remained until Bishop Fanuel passed on his desperate letter to us. Chifundo has proved to be an exceptional student gaining Distinctions in most of his subjects. He has started a year’s internship at a hospital in his home district of Nkhotakota. We have managed to meet him on three occasions and he is very much a member of the Team Malawi family. He hopes one day to specialise in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and we shall follow his career with interest.
